Green SCin @ EcoBuild
Earls Court, London
March 2009
With a space designed around a materials lab, SCin showed new material designers at the Green SCIN Material Experiment at Ecobuild; recycled, cradle to cradle, sustainable and smart.
The new samples I was showing were developed with funding from a SPARK Award, and included recycled and recyclable polyester with no adhesives or additives using prototype technology for Acoustic panelling, wall coverings and screens.
Scores of examples of uncompromising, high-performance eco materials were on display in Green SCIN at Ecobuild 2009. The showcase included surfaces made from recycled yoghurt pots, interiors made from sustainable, organic plant fibre cloth and ‘hero’ materials such as the strong, lightweight and renewable Kirei Board made from sorghum stalks.
Green SCIN also explored prototype technologies with the potential to push boundaries in building design, such as ‘Acoustic Cloak’, which wraps around a building and diversifies sound waves, allowing them to re-group on the other side of a divide without distortion.
Created in partnership with SCIN, the UK’s material consultant, library and showroom, the Green SCIN attraction was complemented by the free eco-materials seminar session, Green SCIN: designing with innovative materials.
